Course Overview:
How confident are you that your EVMS is helping to proactively manage risk and performance? In this interactive workshop, participants will be introduced to the Integrated Project/Program Management (IP2M) Maturity and Environment Total Risk Rating (METRR), a rigorous framework for assessing the effectiveness of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) in large, complex capital endeavors. Participants will learn how to evaluate EVMS implementation, identify performance risks, and prioritize opportunities for improvement. With practical examples, the workshop will also highlight how IP2M METRR assessments result in statistically significant cost and schedule impacts, demonstrating the value of strengthening EVMS execution through IP2M METRR.
Attendees will examine the novel concepts, tools, and processes for IP2M METRR assessments and their statistically significant relationship with project/program performance. Real-world examples will be used to gain hands-on experience during the Workshop. By the end of the Workshop, participants will understand the requirements to:
- Explain the novel sociotechnical concept of environment and its influence on performance.
- Learn how IP2M METRR is being used to anticipate and enhance cost and schedule outcomes.
- Define the step-by-step IP2M METRR implementation process.
- Grasp how Large Language Models support automation in IP2M METRR assessments and root cause type of analyses.
- Justify the importance of the facilitator's role during assessments.

Workshop Agenda:

Recognizing the prevalent deviations in complex capital efforts and the opportunity of sociotechnical approaches to address performance gaps. Many organizations invest heavily in EVMS compliance yet continue to experience cost overruns, schedule delays, and poor decision-making. Research studies will be used to exemplify and quantify the prevalent deviations in complex capital efforts. A sociotechnical systems approach has been proposed as the theoretical underpinning to address performance issues.

Activity 1 – Survey I.
Introducing the IP2M METRR framework and concepts. This module explains how IP2M METRR was developed and its concepts of maturity and environment.

Activity 2 – Survey II.
Evaluating Maturity and Environment. Attendees will learn how to evaluate the environment through its categories and factors, and maturity through its sub-processes and attributes. Step-by-step guidance, tools, and processes will be identified.

Activity 3 – Survey III.
Experience the power of IP2M METRR. Based on a real case scenario, use the fundamental concepts within IP2M METRR to identify critical performance issues and provide recommendations to address performance.

- Discuss steps to mitigate the risks associated with the identified issues
- Discuss stakeholder participation to generate a paradigm shift in the team dynamics
Justify the research-validated impact of IP2M METRR on performance and explain its implementation. Explain how research has statistically validated the impact of IP2M METRR on complex project/program performance. Justify the scope and implementation of IP2M METRR assessments.
